HOCHTIEF cuts Microsoft 365 latency by 90% with DE-CIX

Hochtief, an engineering-led global infrastructure group with approximately 3,200 users across 100 locations, faced a challenge in ensuring well-performing Microsoft 365 tools for its distributed workforce. To improve performance and security for users connecting from various sites and homes, they worked with vendor DE-CIX to implement the Microsoft Azure Peering Service.

The solution involved establishing a direct peering session at a DE-CIX Internet Exchange, creating a connection isolated from the public Internet. This DE-CIX solution replaced the previous public Internet routing with a dedicated direct connection to the Microsoft cloud, resulting in a 90% decrease in latency from 53 to 5 milliseconds for Microsoft Teams and a greatly increased level of security.
