A DDN Case Study
TRIUMF, Canada’s national laboratory for nuclear and particle physics, needed to support the ATLAS experiment’s explosive data growth while staying within tight computing, space, power, and budget limits. The lab also had to move and share massive datasets quickly with researchers at more than 100 sites worldwide, without storage bottlenecks or downtime, and turned to DDN’s storage platform with embedded dCache for help.
DDN implemented an SFA12KXE system with 1.6PB and embedded dCache to create a converged, high-performance storage and global data distribution solution. With DDN, TRIUMF cut storage infrastructure costs by about 5x, reduced its footprint from 21 4U servers across multiple racks to half a rack, lowered power use from 25 kW to under 7 kW, and improved performance, reliability, and collaboration across the ATLAS community.
