A DDN Case Study
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois needed a way to support its Illinois Campus Cluster Program, where multiple research groups co-invest in shared compute and storage resources. The challenge was building a single environment that could handle widely varying technical requirements, multiple generations of hardware, and complex shared access policies while keeping costs down and accelerating research.
DDN provided SFA10K and SFA12K high-performance storage appliances, including nearly 1PB of capacity, to create a centralized storage pool for the campus cluster. With DDN, NCSA improved scalability and flexibility, shortened project startup times, and enabled researchers to get up to 20% more compute and storage resources for their investments.
