A DDN Case Study
CPAC, Canada’s public affairs broadcaster, needed high-performance, massively scalable storage to support data-intensive live production, editing, and archiving as it delivered content to more than 11 million homes and 24/7 streaming. Its legacy tape-based archive and HSM system were costly, labor-intensive, and unreliable, while the team also needed better disaster recovery and backup protection.
DDN implemented an end-to-end storage architecture using DDN SFA12K and DDN WOS Object Storage, integrating with CPAC’s Dalet media workflow and existing production systems. The result was a unified platform for production, active archive, IT backup, and DR that expanded usable capacity to more than 1PB, cut administrative overhead to near zero, doubled archive retrieval speed versus tape, and was projected to pay for itself in just over a year.
