Tempo builds a virtual personal trainer with dbt Cloud and Stemma

Tempo, a rapidly growing smart home fitness company, needed a more scalable way to manage data as it grew from five to 300 people. The team struggled with poorly structured data modeling and lacked key capabilities like testing, version control, lineage, and discoverability. To support its product, e-commerce, supply chain, and analytics needs, Tempo turned to dbt Labs and its dbt Cloud platform alongside Stemma.

With dbt Labs’ dbt Cloud and Stemma, Tempo modernized its data stack on Snowflake and Fivetran, adding automated testing, documentation, collaboration, and lineage tracking. The result was smoother migration, better data quality, faster ad hoc reporting, and improved efficiency—about 30% to 40% for certain data engineering tasks. Tempo also used Stemma to identify unused tables and improve ongoing data management.
