Monzo, a major digital bank in the UK, needed to dramatically increase the speed and reliability of its analytics to empower its team. Their challenge was to make ETL pipelines dependable while simultaneously making it easy for analysts to modify data models, as these two goals were often in conflict. This was hindering their vision for a fast, agile data team.

To solve this, Monzo implemented dbt from dbt Labs. This allowed their analysts to work like software engineers using SQL, version control, and testing within their BigQuery data warehouse. The solution from dbt Labs enabled collaboration on a central code base and introduced tiered data quality checks. The results included over 30 analysts productively collaborating, the migration of 100,000+ lines of code, and an annual saving of £72,000 on data processing costs.
