University of Lausanne unlocks enterprise data warehouse automation with DBMaestro

The University of Lausanne (UNIL) — a research and teaching institution serving roughly 15,000 students and 5,000 staff — built a university-wide Global Data Warehouse (GDW) on Oracle to centralize enterprise data for critical projects. The data team’s manual promotion processes were slow and error-prone, causing version drift across DEV, UAT and PROD; adding database objects to a DevOps pipeline was further complicated by data persistence, compliance, scale and cross-dependencies inherent to a data warehouse.

To address this, UNIL integrated DBMaestro into its existing toolchain (GitHub, Jenkins, Oracle SQLDeveloper, Talend) to implement database CI/CD. DBMaestro enables package-based promotions, automated validation, drift detection and rollback, with hourly DEV→Release Source automation and controlled pipelines to UAT/PROD. The outcome is automated, auditable database deployments with reduced environment drift and stronger change governance; ETL and unit-test automation remain underway but overall delivery speed, reliability and traceability have improved substantially.
