Oracle Forms and Reports Migration Improved Business Agility

Leading Water Utility Company in Portugal engaged DB Best Technologies to modernize an aging customer management and billing system built on obsolete Oracle Forms, Reports and database components. The utility needed a scalable, internet-ready platform with better usability and internationalization so it could both improve billing and offer the service to regional partners. DB Best Technologies proposed migration to Azure using SQL Server on Azure virtual machines, SQL Server Reporting Services, ASP.NET/Angular (HTML5) front end and Azure web/worker roles.

DB Best Technologies used automated conversion tools (including SQL Server Migration Assistant) to move Oracle database objects to SQL Server, convert Oracle Reports to SSRS or HTML5, and transform Oracle Forms into Azure web roles with RESTful APIs and an Angular UI. The modernized architecture added ADO.NET abstraction and continuous integration, cutting the product development cycle from about one year to a projected three-week release cadence, while delivering improved scalability, usability and faster responsiveness to business needs.
