Responsive Eap and Benefits Administration Key to Employee Retention and Cost Control

Zions Bancorporation, a Salt Lake City–based regional bank with about 11,000 employees, faced rising health care costs and the need to demonstrate commitment to employee well‑being. The bank adopted a consumer‑driven health care strategy with three high‑deductible plan options but needed an easy way to manage plan changes, waivers and affidavits, and a robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to respond to critical incidents like robberies that threatened retention, engagement and productivity.

Zions implemented Ceridian LifeWorks for EAP, Health & Welfare and COBRA administration, providing onsite crisis support, financial and legal counseling, and streamlined enrollment and affidavit management. As a result, the bank kept health care premiums flat for three years, reduced administrative time, improved employee productivity and retention (including no turnover linked to robbery incidents), and increased participation in wellness programs.
