Buehler’s Fresh Foods, an employee-owned upscale grocery retailer with 13 Ohio locations, faced sudden operational strain when COVID-19 made groceries an essential service. The retailer redeployed more than 200 restaurant employees to sanitation and CLAG roles, expanded pickup capacity, saved managers time with consolidated messaging, tracked inactive staff for targeted redeployment or hiring, avoided layoffs, and delivered over $250,000 in appreciation pay, sustaining operations and employee morale.
