A Davey Case Study
The Village of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, faced a challenge when the Chagrin River gradually changed course, eroding approximately 75 feet of streambank and threatening its wastewater treatment plant. The village engaged Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) to utilize its environmental design and stream restoration services to stabilize the bank and protect the critical infrastructure.
Davey Resource Group designed and oversaw the restoration of 250 linear feet of the river. The solution included excavating the floodplain, rebuilding the lost bank with stone and soil, installing four bendway weirs to redirect flow, and planting live willow poles for stabilization. Following construction, a native seed mix and additional plantings were added to restore the riparian area. The project successfully halted erosion, protected the wastewater treatment plant, increased floodplain connectivity, and improved the habitat, allowing the area to naturalize.
