TC Energy installs 200 bird nesting pipeline markers with Davey

Davey Resource Group (DRG), a part of Davey Tree, assisted TC Energy in addressing a challenge within their pipeline rights-of-way. The utility needed to clear wooden debris and dead trees for safety and visibility, but this practice removed natural nesting cavities for native bird species, creating a conflict between infrastructure maintenance and sustainability goals.

DRG installed 200 specially designed pipeline markers with nesting cavities along TC Energy's pipelines in Ohio. Following the installation, DRG monitored the sites and confirmed that house wrens successfully used the new cavities during the 2020 nesting season. The project provided TC Energy with a blueprint to expand the program, leading them to retain DRG in 2021 to continue monitoring in Ohio and replicate the successful initiative in other states, enhancing their environmental stewardship.
