A Davey Case Study
Summit Metro Parks required engineering and construction services to address erosion and stabilize over 7,000 linear feet of stream in Sand Run Metro Park, with goals to improve fish habitat and protect park infrastructure. They selected Davey Resource Group, a division of Davey Tree, for a comprehensive design-build solution encompassing survey, design, permitting, and construction oversight.
The solution implemented by Davey involved restoring the stream using natural channel design techniques like cross vanes, log weirs, and bank stabilization, while also removing manmade barriers to fish passage. Davey prioritized sustainability by sourcing woody in-stream materials from another nearby park project to preserve the existing tree canopy. The project was completed in a little over a year, successfully improving in-stream habitat and fish passage while providing long-term protection for the park's trails and infrastructure.
