A Davey Case Study
Sullivan High School in Chicago sought a hands-on sustainability project that would also serve as an educational tool for its students. The school partnered with Davey, specifically its Davey Resource Group division, to implement a stormwater management solution through the creation of a rain garden.
Davey designed and installed the 480 square-foot rain garden by directly involving the school's biology students in the planning and building process. The vendor used the students' own landscape plans to create the master design, then engaged classes in the installation, planting 44 native plants and shrubs. The solution created a lasting outdoor learning lab, helped the school meet its sustainability goals, and fostered pride and connection for the student community.
