A Davey Case Study
A Southwest U.S. communications company faced the challenge of removing outdated copper drop wires from utility poles after upgrading to fiber lines. This necessary work aimed to decrease excess pole load and clear the way for new technology. They partnered with Davey Resource Group (DRG) for the wire removal expertise.
Davey's solution began with a pilot project in 2021, which expanded into a multi-state effort involving wire removal and joint-use audits. The DRG team grew to 17 crew members and integrated data across GIS platforms. The results were significant: in 2023 alone, DRG removed wires from 54,000 poles and audited 1.2 million poles, saving the communications company on rental costs and leading to their designation as the vendor of choice for an expanded project scope.
