A Davey Case Study
PCS Phosphate faced a challenge when proposing a mine expansion in Aurora, NC, as the project would result in extensive wetland and stream impacts requiring large-scale mitigation. To address this, they contracted Davey Resource Group, a division of Davey Tree, to provide environmental consulting and wetland mitigation services.
The solution from Davey Resource Group involved identifying and restoring a large farm site in the Rutman Creek watershed. Their services included restoration planning, coordination with agencies, wetland delineation, and construction management, culminating in the restoration of over 3,000 acres. The results included restored hydrology, improved water quality through reduced nutrient and sediment runoff, and the creation of significant habitat connectivity between a national wildlife refuge and nearby swamp forests. Davey monitored the project's success from 2009 through 2016, confirming a thriving, restored ecosystem.
