Hoosier Energy inspects 37,000 poles with Davey

Hoosier Energy, a Northeast U.S. utility, needed to assess the condition of its wooden utility poles with a less invasive inspection method. They partnered with Davey Resource Group, a division of Davey Tree, to determine the best approach, which involved using field teams equipped with specialized resistograph technology.

Davey implemented the solution by using the resistograph technology on 37,000 poles in central Pennsylvania to accurately measure internal decay. Following the inspections, Davey used Katapult software for pole loading analysis to guide reinforcement or replacement decisions. The utility was highly satisfied, renewing the contract for 2022 with an expectation for Davey to inspect over 100,000 poles by the end of the renewed term.
