A Davey Case Study
Hoosier Energy, a generation and transmission cooperative providing power to residents and businesses across Indiana and Illinois, needed to clear a densely forested, 6.25-mile corridor to connect two substations and improve system reliability. They engaged Davey and its land clearing service to complete this challenging work safely and efficiently under a tight schedule.
Davey mobilized an 8-person crew using specialized mechanical equipment like feller-bunchers and excavator mulchers, supplemented by manual clearing in inaccessible terrain. The vendor cleared approximately 80 acres and removed 15,000 trees, completing over 9,000 man-hours with zero safety incidents. This allowed Hoosier Energy to stay on schedule for building a new 69kV transmission line, which enhanced system capacity, reliability, and reduced outage duration for its members.
