A Davey Case Study
Davey Resource Group was contracted by Gernatt Asphalt Products, Inc. to address an environmental design challenge. The customer needed to create a productive wetland habitat within an existing dredge mining lake at their sand and gravel facility in Dayton, New York.
The solution designed by Davey involved constructing a freshwater "hemi-marsh" using clean overburden material from the mining operation. This established a robust emergent and deepwater habitat for fish, amphibians, birds, and wildlife. The project was successfully monitored for six years, achieving full compliance with permit conditions and even being used as a demonstration site by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
