City of Tulsa, OK restores canopy to 30% with Davey after losing 20,000 trees

Davey Resource Group, a Davey company, partnered with the City of Tulsa, OK, to address a significant loss of urban tree canopy after a devastating ice storm destroyed 20,000 trees. The challenge was to strategically regreen the city and create a data-driven plan for recovery and future urban forestry management.

The solution involved conducting an i-Tree Eco sample inventory and GIS analysis to assess canopy coverage and value. Davey Resource Group used this data to help develop a 20-year Urban Forest Master Plan, which set goals for planting 15,000 trees annually. By 2017, 10,000 trees had been planted, and the plan established a pathway to increase canopy cover from 26% to 30%, valuing the existing tree stock at $7.29 billion.
