Preview of the City of Quincy, MA Case Study

City of Quincy, MA plants 611 trees with Davey and keeps mortality under 5%

The City of Quincy, Massachusetts, participated in the statewide Greening the Gateway Cities program with the goal of increasing urban tree canopy. The planting sites along the ocean presented a significant challenge, exposing new trees to harsh conditions like high winds and saltwater, which typically lead to high mortality rates. The city engaged Davey, specifically its Davey Resource Group (DRG) division, for tree planting and aftercare services.

Davey Resource Group planted 611 trees over two seasons and provided a comprehensive two-year aftercare program that included watering and a critical tree mortality warranty. Through this dedicated care, Davey achieved a tree mortality rate of less than 5%, which was well below the expected 10% rate for such a challenging coastal environment. This successful implementation contributed directly to the program's goal of enhancing tree canopy for community benefits like improved air quality and stormwater management.
