A Davey Case Study
Davey Resource Group (DRG), a Davey company, was hired by the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to develop and implement a care plan for its urban forest. Following the creation of a master plan, the city's key challenge was to execute a comprehensive tree inventory to guide maintenance, while also navigating budgeting constraints.
The solution involved DRG conducting a GIS-based inventory of nearly 12,000 sites, including trees, stumps, and vacant planting spots, across city rights-of-way and parks. Davey structured the project in phases to align with the city's priorities and budget. The results were actionable data that enabled Lancaster to secure federal and county funding. This funding was directly used to remove dead trees identified in the inventory, replace them, and plant in empty tree wells, directly implementing the urban forest improvements.
