City of Elmhurst boosts pollinator habitat at several lift stations with Davey

The City of Elmhurst, Illinois, sought to improve the ecological and aesthetic value of several wastewater lift stations situated along the popular Salt Creek Trail. They contracted Davey Resource Group (DRG), a division of Davey Tree, for environmental consulting and native landscape planting services to address this challenge.

Davey implemented a solution using native vegetation seeds and plugs to establish landscape beds around the lift stations, transforming them into pollinator habitats. Their ongoing maintenance involves selective mowing, mechanical pulling, herbicide application, and controlled burning to manage invasive species and help native plants thrive. As a result, Davey turned potential eyesores into beautified native habitats, with interpretive signs added to educate the public, and continues its stewardship partnership with the city.
