City of Eden Prairie restores 3.3 acres of shoreline habitat with Davey

The City of Eden Prairie faced an invasive species challenge, where buckthorn had infested 3.3 acres of woodland along the Mitchell Lake shoreline. This infestation was degrading water quality, harming native oaks, and blocking views for residents. The City, with partial grant funding, engaged Davey Resource Group for invasive species management and control to address this problem.

Davey Resource Group removed the buckthorn using cutting tools and herbicide treatments, then installed a native woodland seed mix. The solution included a commitment to annual follow-up treatments for at least five years to ensure long-term control. This work by Davey preserved the shoreline's ecological function, improved habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and restored the natural buffer protecting lake water quality.
