A Davey Case Study
The City of Big Rapids, MI engaged Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) to conduct a complete inventory of its public street and park trees and create a prioritized management plan. The city needed this data to transition from reactive to proactive tree care, mitigate risk, and develop a sustainable urban forest for community well-being.
Davey's arborists successfully completed the tree inventory and delivered a detailed management plan with priority ratings and cost estimates, despite a project delay due to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. The plan included a phased five-year budget, allowing the city to immediately address high-priority trees and schedule future maintenance. Using Davey's plan, the City of Big Rapids secured a $9,175 grant from the Michigan DNR’s Urban and Community Forestry Program to fund the recommended work.
