Boardman Township restores 4 flood hazard projects with Davey

Boardman Township, OH faced a significant flooding challenge in the Cranberry Run Watershed, where a highly channelized stream caused issues during heavy rain events. The township engaged Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG), a division of Davey, to provide engineering and surveying services funded by a FEMA Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant to address this problem.

Davey designed an ecological restoration focused on creating flood storage within specific parcels without expanding the project area. The solution included a grading plan for five sites to allow the stream to access its floodplain, the use of native plants for low-maintenance landscaping, and the removal and replacement of an existing dam with a naturalized channel. DRG also provided construction management and oversight. The project successfully mitigated downstream flooding by restoring floodplain storage and creating new wetland habitat.
