CMG Computing Services, a full-service MSP in North Bay, Ontario serving clients across healthcare, manufacturing, finance and automotive, faced a critical challenge when their largest client—an accounting firm—was struck by ransomware in the middle of tax season after an employee clicked a social-media link. The attack began encrypting shared files on servers and threatened significant downtime and data loss at the busiest time of year.

Because CMG had migrated the firm from tape to the Datto SIRIS total data protection platform with frequent hourly snapshots, the technician isolated the infected workstation and restored systems to a state about 40 minutes before the attack; full recovery took roughly eight hours and no recent work was lost.
