Big Sur Does Big Things with Datto’s Private Cloud

Big Sur Technologies, a Tampa-based MSP/VAR with 15 years serving healthcare, government and education, built its own private cloud to manage customers’ servers and apps. As customer needs grew—long retention requirements (for example, seven-year medical archives) and faster recovery—Big Sur faced slow restores that took hours and the prospect of a costly $150,000 duplicate SAN to handle backups.

Big Sur partnered with Datto, backing its private cloud to Datto’s 160+ PB purpose-built cloud and deploying Datto Virtual SIRIS. Restores now take minutes instead of hours, Big Sur avoided the $150k investment, and it runs two Virtual SIRIS devices (up to 20 TB each) with customizable, time-based retention and offsite, bi-coastal data center protection for customers’ servers.
