A Datto Networking Case Study
The Fenmore is a 205-unit historic condominium complex steps from Fenway Park that needed a modern, building-wide Wi‑Fi service. K&J Integrated Systems, led by Brendan Burroughs, faced major installation challenges due to the complex’s early-20th-century brick, horsehair plaster and wire-lathe construction, which made cabling and traditional wired upgrades difficult.
Burroughs deployed a cost-effective Open Mesh solution: three 50 Mbps business lines, seven 24-port switches, 6,000 ft of shielded CAT5E and 83 Open Mesh access points managed via the Cloudtrax cloud controller. The network was quick to provision and easy to manage (bandwidth controls, a community password, remote support), residents canceled individual broadband plans, and the community now saves over $6,000 per month. Ongoing maintenance is minimal thanks to hardware watchdogs and remote management, and the same approach has been used in roughly three dozen other Boston condo buildings.
