A Datto Networking Case Study
Open Mesh, a Datto company, partnered with the City of Belton, Texas, to help the town of 18,000 create a free, local wireless network that would attract travelers, support students, and drive foot traffic to local businesses. An initial DIY deployment using old PCs and consumer access points proved complex, unreliable, and required too much professional IT time.
Open Mesh provided pre‑programmed, cloud‑managed 802.11n access points and CloudTrax management so businesses can be online by simply plugging in the unit. Guests are redirected to a Belton Wireless homepage that lists participating businesses and runs ads to offset costs; about a dozen organizations are already live. The plug‑and‑play setup eliminated on‑site servers, simplified administration, and increased community and visitor connectivity with minimal effort.
