Case Study: Burrton School District achieves reliable, campus-wide iPad-ready WiFi with Datto Networking

A Datto Networking Case Study

Preview of the Burrton School District Case Study

Burrton School District - Customer Case Study

Burrton School District in Kansas needed a more robust wireless network to support a planned K–12 iPad rollout. IT Coordinator Brian Watts found the existing 802.11g Cisco system unreliable—frequent dropped connections, dead zones caused by concrete walls, no central controller for easy configuration, and no safe way to offer guest WiFi without exposing the LAN.

Watts deployed an Open Mesh solution—initially 27 802.11n access points (plus six more) using existing cabling and the CloudTrax cloud controller—and configured dual SSIDs to separate secure student/teacher access from a public guest network. The result was immediate: far fewer WiFi issues, stable connections even under heavy use, easy guest access, strong campus-wide coverage at lower cost, and new capabilities like streaming football games online, delivering strong ROI for the district.
