Global DIY Leader ADEO Transitions to Google BigQuery Using Datometry Hyper-Q

Adeo, a European leader in home improvement and DIY, faced significant business limitations due to its reliance on a 20-year-old, on-premises data warehouse appliance. This rigid infrastructure hindered flexibility and growth for its 24 global business units, which ran over 3 million daily queries. While Adeo identified Google BigQuery as an ideal agile cloud platform, the conventional migration path—rewriting thousands of queries and reports—was deemed cost-prohibitive and too high-risk. The Datometry Hyper-Q platform was introduced as a solution to this challenge.

Datometry Hyper-Q enabled Adeo to transition its business-critical workloads, including over 200,000 database objects, to BigQuery without any costly and risky application rewrites. The virtualization platform preserved all existing queries and business logic, allowing for a seamless cutover with no downtime or disruption to business operations. With Datometry, Adeo migrated at a fraction of the time and cost of a conventional approach, subsequently reducing its total cost of ownership for the data warehouse infrastructure by an estimated 50%.
