A DatAvail Case Study
North America's HealthCare Providing Company, a North American health care provider supporting urgent and emergent care across hospitals, needed a critical OS and platform migration to maintain SLAs for availability, security and scalability. The scope included moving from OS 2003 to OS 2012 R2 plus parallel upgrades (SQL Server 2005→2014, .NET 2.0→4.6, ADFS 2.0→3.0, BizTalk 2006→2013 R2, COGNOS→SSRS) across an environment serving 145 hospitals, ~4,400 active users, integration with 103 hospitals and 2.7M+ messages/year (projected to grow tenfold). They engaged Datavail to lead the migration with a QA-first approach to avoid user impact.
Datavail executed a four-step, QA-driven program—identifying 200+ use cases (~4,000 test cases), prioritizing risk-based testing, leveraging and expanding automation, and defining acceptance criteria with subject matter experts. The work produced numerous reusable automated test suites, updated run books and documentation, and a successful upgrade to OS 2012 R2 and .NET 4.6; the project met all objectives, was delivered on time and on budget, resulted in a smooth transition with no post-project issues, and preserved the client’s SLAs.
