Sony DADC New Media Solutions - Customer Case Study

Sony DADC New Media Solutions faced a need to modernize and protect a mission‑critical SQL Server–based supply chain application: both database nodes were co‑located in a single data center, creating disaster‑recovery risk, and the environment struggled with high I/O demands and periodic traffic spikes that required buying idle hardware. To move to the cloud and address availability, performance, and scalability, Sony DADC New Media Solutions engaged Datavail and planned a migration to AWS.

Datavail migrated the company’s 1 TB SQL Server workloads to SQL Server 2014 on Amazon EC2, implemented SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups across multiple Availability Zones, stored backups in Amazon S3, and performed planning, testing, and I/O performance tuning. As a result, Datavail delivered improved high availability and automatic failover, on‑demand elasticity and better cost control, and major performance gains — for example, an I/O‑intensive database copy/cleanse process dropped from over 24 hours to under 10 hours (a reduction of more than 40 percent).
