Mammoth Mountain Ski Area - Customer Case Study

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area faced the need to improve high availability for its SQL Server environment and to remove reporting load from its production systems. To address this, Mammoth Mountain turned to DatAvail (working with AWS) to design a hybrid on‑premises and cloud solution that would provide redundancy and off‑load reporting to the cloud.

DatAvail replicated the on‑premises SQL Server databases to Amazon EC2 instances so the publisher and distributor remain on‑premises while the subscriber runs on EC2, with an additional EC2 SQL Server as a warm standby for the subscriber. DatAvail’s approach off‑loads reporting traffic—minimizing contention and performance impacts on the production OLTP server—while adding redundancy and disaster‑recovery capability, and required close coordination across systems, network, application, and DBA teams.
