A DatAvail Case Study
Finning Canada, the world’s largest Caterpillar equipment dealer, faced large volumes of paper-based field service records from technicians working in remote, rugged locations. Manual double-entry and paper processing left technicians under‑utilized, increased errors, lengthened cash‑flow cycles, and limited management visibility. DatAvail was engaged to help replace this paper bottleneck using a high-tech integrated digital pen solution alongside business process and technology services.
DatAvail implemented digital pens that capture handwriting (300 images/second) and transmit data via smartphones, then integrated those records into Finning Canada’s SharePoint, payroll and billing systems. The solution eliminated double-entry, gave real-time visibility into customer accounts, and shortened processing (previously taking up to five months for a single item) so billing, payroll and account reconciliation happen immediately—freeing crews for more billable work and removing month‑end scramble.
