How AWS RDS & Microsoft SQL Server Improved Patient Care

Leading Biomedical Device Company, a maker of a non-drug pain management therapy system used in hospitals, clinics and at home, needed a way for its devices' cellular modems to upload patient treatment data remotely instead of storing it locally and forcing follow-up visits. DatAvail was engaged to deliver the cloud database and endpoint infrastructure, leveraging AWS (including RDS) and Microsoft SQL Server to enable secure, always-available uploads.

DatAvail implemented an AWS-based architecture—using AWS RDS with Microsoft SQL Server, Lambda functions (C#/.NET Core), API Gateway, CloudFront (to support HTTP→HTTPS for legacy devices), device-side encryption and VPN connectivity—to provide a secure, highly available and elastic endpoint. As a result, the Leading Biomedical Device Company gained near real-time access to treatment data, reduced unnecessary office visits, improved clinician workflows and patient monitoring, and achieved scalable handling of demand spikes.
