How a Health Information Technology Leader Migrated to AWS

Leading Non -Profit Organization, a national health IT nonprofit that processes and analyzes up to 10 TB of data per day, faced an aging on-premises Microsoft SQL Server environment (SQL Server 2008 R2) with limited HA/DR, security and scalability as well as impending end-of-life concerns. To modernize and remain HIPAA-compliant, the organization engaged DatAvail to migrate and upgrade its databases to AWS, moving to SQL Server 2016 in the cloud.

DatAvail implemented the migration using AWS Snowball for bulk data transfer, enabled Transparent Data Encryption and SSL for HIPAA-compliant protection, synchronized the AWS databases with on‑prem systems to minimize downtime, and built a high-availability mirroring site. DatAvail also sized and tested R4 EC2 instances (then converted to Reserved Instances), deployed a custom 24x7 monitoring and DBA incident-response service, and now provides ongoing tuning and maintenance—delivering improved security, availability, performance and scalability and reduced infrastructure costs for the Leading Non -Profit Organization.
