Addressing Always-on Availability Group Problems in AWS for an Online Memorials Website

Large Online Memorials Website had frequent, unexplained Always-On Availability Group failures after migrating to AWS that caused daily failovers and minute-long outages, degrading user experience. The customer engaged DatAvail to stabilize the environment and to plan upgrades to Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017 while determining whether the root cause was SQL Server or AWS.

DatAvail designed and implemented a three-node Windows cluster with a SQL Server Always On Availability Group and migrated the databases to SQL Server 2017, spending 160 hours on the engagement (80 hours troubleshooting, 80 hours migration). As a result, DatAvail delivered significantly improved availability, a reliable production go-live, and elimination of the intermittent failovers that had been impacting users.
