Switching from MongoDB to DataStax Enterprise for High Performance Interview with Early Birds

Early Birds is a Paris-based personalization platform that delivers real-time product recommendations and interactive experiences to major eCommerce sites. After launching on MongoDB and Redis, they ran into write-performance bottlenecks as traffic grew—hundreds of records per second and several GB of data per day—causing API latency and scalability issues.

They migrated primary storage to Apache Cassandra via DataStax Enterprise while retaining MongoDB for complex queries (using Spark MapReduce on Cassandra and storing results back in MongoDB). DSE’s OpsCenter, DevCenter and management services plus vendor support made deployment, monitoring and maintenance easier. The change eliminated performance problems, reduced API response times, and delivered the high availability and throughput the business needed, enabling plans to expand analytics and BI offerings.
