REDtone Empowers Smart Citizen Application with DataStax Enterprise

REDtone built an IoT middleware and citizen engagement app to connect a wide variety of sensors and smartphone inputs for smart-city services like parking, waste management and public reporting. Facing diverse, resource-constrained sensor protocols and growing data volumes, they found their previous MongoDB setup couldn’t deliver the read/write performance, query flexibility or enterprise support they needed.

They migrated to DataStax Enterprise (Cassandra) and now use DSE Search (Solr) for complex indexing/queries and Spark with R for analytics. The DSE stack enabled universal sensor interfacing, faster reads/writes, an analytics dashboard for city leadership, secure enterprise updates and vendor support, and a scalable live cluster—accelerating deployment and future Hadoop/Spark–based data analysis.
