Real-Time Surveys Get Personal with Pollfish

Pollfish is a mobile-first survey platform that collects real-time survey responses and rich user metadata via SDKs on Android and iOS. Faced with high-volume, time-series data and the need for fast analysis, they outgrew relational databases and found Hadoop and other options too complex or insufficient for their scalability and performance needs.

They adopted DataStax Enterprise (Cassandra) on Microsoft Azure, using DSE Search, Spark analytics and OpsCenter to manage the cluster. The move delivered production-grade reliability, easier development compared with Hadoop, better scalability for time-series workloads, faster time-to-market, and enabled new product features (including direct DSE Search access) with planned LDAP security integration.
