MobilePay Banks on Datastax for Mainframe Migration

MobilePay, launched by Danske Bank in 2013, is Denmark’s leading payments app used by about 82% of the population. After rapid adoption overwhelmed its mainframe applications and traditional databases, the IT team needed a way to scale, ensure continuous availability, and move to a microservices-based architecture while deploying in a private cloud.

MobilePay migrated to DataStax Enterprise (Apache Cassandra) on a VMware-based private cloud, adopting event-driven microservices and a phased cutover to avoid downtime. The move delivered a 360° customer view, supported the mainframe migration, sustained a 9/10 customer satisfaction score, grew to over four million users (installed on nine of ten Danish smartphones), and enabled per-minute processing averages of DKK174,000 (≈ $26,000).
