METRO Uses DataStax as Its Core Data Management Platform for Microservices

METRO, a global wholesale and retail food specialist operating in 35 countries with more than 150,000 employees and €36.5bn in sales (FY 2017/18), embarked on a digital transformation to replace legacy relational systems that hindered scalability and cross‑team communication. The company needed real‑time data access across delivery, fulfillment, checkout and call‑center applications, and sought to migrate parts of its estate to a microservices and NoSQL architecture to streamline development and reduce costs.

METRONOM GmbH adopted DataStax Enterprise (built on Apache Cassandra) as the core data management platform to support microservices and hybrid cloud deployments, deploying 150+ clusters and migrating workloads to mixed private/public clouds (including initial Google Cloud native integrations). The result: real‑time data availability for delivery and inventory apps, better interdepartmental communication, faster response times with fewer support tickets, successful cloud migration, and a scalable foundation for ongoing expansion and cost savings.
