A DataStax Case Study
Kaiko is a London/Paris startup that provides comprehensive Bitcoin and blockchain data via APIs—covering prices, blockchain explorer data, exchange trades, order books and derived analytics. As a small team they needed a low‑maintenance, highly available system to store and serve a continuously growing mix of historical and real‑time data, and early prototyping with SQL, LevelDB, Redis and open‑source Cassandra exposed stability and scaling challenges.
They adopted DataStax Enterprise (Cassandra with OpsCenter and In‑Memory) to gain replication, stability, integrated S3 backups and scheduled repairs, and fast access for short‑lived datasets. The move eliminated prior stability issues, delivered scalable storage for their blockchain and exchange datasets, and set the stage to add Spark for heavy analytics and Solr for search—enabling reliable real‑time Bitcoin analytics and API services.
