IHS Markit converts data to value with Datastax

IHS Markit, a global data and analysis firm supporting industries from aerospace to consumer electronics, faced the challenge of managing a sprawling digital catalog of more than 500 million electronic parts and components that had grown across disparate, brittle relational databases. The Parts Content Factory needed fast, reliable search and analytics, simpler updates by nearly 350 knowledge workers, and a scalable master data management solution to support BOM Intelligence customers and complex regulatory and lifecycle workflows.

IHS Markit partnered with DataStax to consolidate and automate its parts database using DataStax Enterprise on Microsoft Azure, leveraging integrated search (Apache Solr), analytics (Apache Spark), and data-visualization capabilities to speed queries, automate content classification, and eliminate much legacy ETL. The result: consistent high performance, lower maintenance costs, faster time-to-market for updates, greater operational agility to handle spikes and growth, and improved customer experiences that drive new revenue opportunities.
