Ole Pedersen, Senior Data Scientist and R&D lead, explains that as Raptor grew their MS SQL Server batch-based setup could no longer handle the volume or the need for real-time personalization, so they needed a more scalable, low-latency data platform.

Raptor migrated from Apache Cassandra to DataStax Enterprise, storing user behavior and data-mining models in DSE, using Spark for batch model updates and OpsCenter for monitoring. The move delivered linear scalability, operational stability and features like TTLs and counters, enabling real-time recommendations that boost basket size and customer return rates while giving the team the monitoring and support needed to maintain a stable production platform.
