The U.S. Army needed an AI-driven way to predict which contracts would underspend so contracting officers could quickly reclaim and reallocate funds to higher‑priority projects. To meet that challenge the U.S. Army worked with DataRobot, deploying DataRobot’s machine learning/AI platform into the Army Vantage Platform to identify contracts likely to have unused funds.

DataRobot’s models enabled contracting officers to deobligate and reallocate funds automatically, boosting obligation rates and saving thousands of staff hours. As a result, the U.S. Army has identified $2.2B+ in excess funds since July 2020 (nearly $1B annually over the last two years), achieved a 3x higher yield on fund recovery, and established a foundation for additional financial models and tools using DataRobot.
