How a medical center accelerates clinical research with AI

University Medical Centre Mannheim, a teaching hospital that treats over 250,000 patients annually, needed to extract clinical insights from rich but complex datasets while clinicians balanced heavy patient loads and had limited data science expertise. They sought an AI solution that would let physician-researchers analyze outcomes, meet strict reproducibility and compliance requirements, and accelerate publishable research—challenges they addressed by partnering with DataRobot and its AI platform.

DataRobot provided the University Medical Centre Mannheim with tools such as Time Series, Visual AI and packaged capabilities from its AI Foundation, Predictive AI, AI Governance and AI Observability suites to build, validate and monitor models accessible to clinicians. Using DataRobot, teams uncovered new clinical findings — including 29.6% of patients showing improved quality of life at six months and about 30% experiencing decline or persistently poor QoL — and identified lipid markers linked to cardiac risk, enabling more targeted treatment research and reproducible, publishable results.
