Cumberland Medical Center - Customer Case Study

Cumberland Medical Center, a 189-bed community hospital in Tennessee, needed to meet Meaningful Use 2 attestation deadlines while moving away from a manual process for creating Patient Health Summary documents. The hospital also needed electronic accessibility for patients and providers, and many affiliate providers were not enabled for Direct Secure Messaging.

Working with DataMotion Direct, MEDITECH EHR 6.0, and etHIN, Cumberland integrated Direct into its MEDITECH system within two weeks before the April 1 reporting period. The solution automated the creation and transmission of Patient Health Summaries from the discharge workflow, preserved existing Direct addresses, and made summaries available in the patient portal. As a result, Cumberland started its 90-day MU2 reporting period on April 1, sent Patient Health Summaries from within MEDITECH, and enabled patients to view, download, and transmit their summaries using Direct.
